Tasting - "Villa Jolanda Brut"

Name: Villa Jolanda Brut

Variety: 100% Prosecco

Region: Veneto

Country: Italy

Year: Non Vintage

Price: $8.95

Vintage Cellar Tasting Notes:

Brilliant straw color with emerald reflections. Fresh and floral bouquet with a hint of pears, apricots and bananas. Fresh and inviting with bright fruit and an easy drinking style with a pleasing hint of almonds in the aftertaste.

Personal Tasting Notes:

I thought this wine was reasonably good, with a smooth and non acidic palate that was rather crisp and clean rather than having a mineral quality to it.  The wine had a definite bouquet of fresh flowers and oranges.  Further there was a slight scent of apricots and pears as well.  I found the flavor of the wine to be slightly fruity with a stronger taste of apricots and oranges than other fruits.  Finally the finish was smooth with a buttery almond or pecan flavor to it.

Tasting - "Alvarez de Toledo Godello 2013"

Name: Alvarez de Toledo Godello 2013

Variety: 100% Verdelho (Godello)

Region: Bierzo

Country: Spain

Year: 2013

Price: $7.95

Vintage Cellar Tasting Notes:

Clean pale yellow color. Nose fruity, persistent and elegant aromas. Good backbone on the palate.

Personal Tasting Notes:

I did like this wine which had a slightly fruity aroma particularly of cirtus.  The flavors I detected were lemons and oranges.  This wine had a slightly acidic flavor and was slightly dry but not terribly bitter.  I feel this wine might have gone well with shell fish in a lemon sauce.

Tasting - "Monte Degli Angeli Sangiovese 2013"

Name: Monte Degli Angeli Sangiovese

Variety: 100% Sangiovese (Nielluccio)

Region: Puglia

Country: Italy

Year: 2013

Price: $7.95

Vintage Cellar Tasting Notes:

The aromas are rich and dark, with lots of black cherry and a hint of balsamic. In the mouth the wine is round and energetic, with cherry and black raspberry fruit complemented by hints of damp earth. If you like Sangiovese-based wines like Chianti or our best-selling Colsanto from Umbria, you'll love this! The wine is ripe, fresh, and fruit-driven with a wonderful dash of earthy complexity at the end. Buy it by the case and drink with pizza, grilled poultry, and pasta.

Personal Tasting Notes:

I really did not like this wine as it was bitter and tasted like sour cherries.  There was a bouquet of blackberries and ethanol as well as a slight bit of tobacco.  Additional flavors, I detected were that of tobacco and spices on the finish. Although I feel this wine would go well with steak.
